PVP on UO Evolution

"Without villains, there can be no heroes.” A game, or any entertainment medium, is flat, predictable, and utterly lacking in conflict, tension, and suspense without a worthy intelligent villain. “The villain is the main source of conflict and tension and suspense -- those necessary qualities in all of literature. Without a worthy villain, there cannot be a worthy hero"

PvP Combat

In Ultima Online, player vs player (commonly abbreviated as PvP) denotes fighting other players rather than monsters (PvM Player vs Monster). Originally the game has only one Facet, UO Evolution has expanded to all 7 Facets and only Felucca allows PvP Combat

Player vs player combat can be categorized by the following types:

Felucca Facet

This is generally comprised of random PvP that takes place in Felucca for fun or sport. A miner could be attacked while mining. A player might bump into another in a forest. Players can also be drawn to a specific area for some reason. For example a collapsing house or Event Moderator event.

Red City

Players can meet at one of the arenas to engage in PvP or tournaments. Players can agree to different rules, such as disallowing potions and healing.

Champion Spawn Areas

This is when guilds or groups compete for control of a Felucca Champion Spawn. This particular style of PvP frequently takes the form of a large guild or group raiding a spawn being progressed by a smaller guild or group, with the larger group usually scouting the progression of the spawn to time the raid to coincide with the appearance of the champion in order to obtain the Power Scrolls.

Guild War Conflict

When players in two or more guilds wish to declare war on each other, frequently for roleplaying purposes, they can do so through the guild system. The guild war can be set up to end after a certain time period, a certain number of kills, or can be set to last indefinitely.

Combat Status

You can determine another player's "flagging" status by looking at their name, health bar, or hovering over their character while in war mode. The color they appear to you determines what will happen if you attack them.

Blue

Applies to all innocent players and NPCs. Attacking a blue target in a non-consensual rule set will flag you gray. If you are in a Guard Zone, anyone who says "guards" will cause you to be executed instantly. If you target a blue player and they end up dying, they can give you a murder count. Two minutes after your last damage to a blue target will return you to being blue yourself.

Gray

Applies to all players who have committed a criminal action. This includes Stealing, attacking innocent (blue) targets, performing beneficial acts on another gray or murderer, etc. While gray they are freely attackable by anyone without penalty. The player flagged gray is free to retaliate and even kill their attacker(s).

Red

The "Red" color applies to Murderers, commonly referred to as a PK (player killer). A PK has 5 or more murder counts and can only travel to non-consensual areas (usually Felucca). They are always freely attackable by anyone.

PVP on the UO Evolution Shard is a custom system and is very different than the original OSI shards from the T2A and Renaissance eras

Custom PVP

This shard has many custom features, such as leveled weapons, sockets/augments, weapon mods and pet systems that make each PVP encounter unpredictable. You can also GM all 64 skills so everyone has a different skill profile and level of experience

Future PVP Plans

Upcoming Plans for PVP and Faction Custom Expansion

UO Evolution Shard has been planning and coding a new faction system and PvP system that enhances the player experience

In the past, PvP has always been a difficult dilemma for all custom shards to overcome. Since our shard has unlimited skills, no skill caps, custom items, and pets it makes the balancing of PvP almost impossible to simulate the original systems

Over the years we have experimented with many ideas and code to create the original PvP on UO Evolution, but all the code added had to be balanced with more code and so on. We have taken 2 years to analyze our situation and code these new ideas into reality

Kane decided to create an entirely new custom system that addresses all the flaws in the original game, created new elements to PvP, and balanced it for our shard

We have been speaking with players, specifically old PvPers to develop a PvP system that they would enjoy and adapt to, that felt original, but encompassed all the new game assets that have been developed for UO Evolution.

We will announce when we launch this PvP system for testing and keep you all informed of the progress
