Gold panning

Gold panning shop.png

Gold panning is a unique system to UO Evolution and is great for new players to earn gold.

In order to create gold pans, you need to have sufficient training in Tinkering, Fishing, and Begging. You can also purchase gold pans from players.

High Fishing skill and Luck are recommended for best results. The legendary player "Tiger" notes the "most efficient" panning comes at 200 fishing skill

To use a gold pan, go to any shallow water (For some reason even puddles work!) double-click the gold pan in your pack, and then target the water. There will be a short delay and then the gold pan in your pack will become “filled”, then double click the filled gold pan to retrieve the contents.

You will get small, medium or large nuggets, as well as a chance at soggy boots, large gems (e.g Perfect Emerald) Messages in a Bottle, and even Crystalline Blackrock.

The nuggets can be sold for GOLD at the Nugget Trader on the docks in Britain and at the Mining Shop in Minoc.

No AFK gold panning!

Gold Panning Guide

Goldpanning Guide

So you want to gold pan and strike it rich eh? Well first thing you are going to need is to learn how to fish. The primary skill for gold panning is fishing secondary is Luck. The Magic number for fishing is 200, after that you are for sure to get Large nuggets when present. Otherwise you might let it slip past your pan and miss it.

Once you get your skill in fishing set, you'll need to either buy gold pans from a player or make them. If you decide to make them it costs 5000 gold per try and will give you either 50 or if exceptional when made will give you 100 pans. You will also need 100 Tinkering and begging to 80. Starting out it's well worth just to buy them and not worry about making them. You save very little by making the pans yourself 20gp per pan, which when in the scheme of things is a drop in bucket.

Once you get your pan you're ready to go gold panning. You can Pan anywhere on a shoreline, but I would suggest steering clear of town area's as they will only give you small nuggets.

When finished panning you'll have some nuggets and gems and maybe messages in a bottle (MIB). MIB's give SOS's which are like treasure maps. Nuggets you can sell at the Britain docks to the gold panner or in Minoc at the bank.

Panning Tips

Large nuggets are Static. which means if you find one best mark the spot and throw in a rune book as it will 95% of the time have a large nugget there again. All other resources in the game are random, like mining and lumberjacking.

Luck doesn't seem to effect nuggets. Luck only effects your chance of getting MIB’s, the luck gear here is optional

Ideally you want enough +skill clothing to give you +25 fishing bonus
