It was the dead of nite, the forest was quiet except for the rustling of a badger in the undergrowth, it was following a scent and came across a clearing, it froze, sniffed the air and looked up at the clearing, it sensed something wrong and scurried away, just as a spark lit up the night over the clearing, it flickered for a moment or two then disappeared, a few moments later the spark came again, this time a little stronger and brighter than the first, it flickered and sizzled in the night then faded once again, a few moments later the forest was lit up by a bright blue light as a moongate appeared out of nowhere, a figure stepped forth from the light dropped to its knees and spewed the contents of it's stomach.

The moongate, having delivered it's passenger, flickered for a few moments more then faded and disappeared. The figure stayed hunched over for a minute of two, then slowly rose up, wiped his mouth and looked around, a ray of moonlight shone off the armour and the knight stepped forward into the light and looked around the clearing, the armour was well oiled and hd been well looked after, except for the odd dent here and there, it was made from a whitish metal and had a slight blue tinge to it, carried over the knights back was a large round shield, it was also whitish coloured but had a reflective surface, almost like a mirror, by his side was carried a sword in it's scabbard, which was jewel encrusted.

The Old Knight looked up at the night sky but did not recognize any of the constellations, he cursed under his breath.

“Damn you Mith, where have you sent me now ?” The Old Knight looked around the forest clearing, from this vantage point he could see over the tops of the trees and in the distance he could see a faint light, staring at the light he realized it was slowly moving towards him, past experience had taught him to observe before taking action, he started heading towards the approaching light, looking for a vantage point, several metres into the forest he came across a large tree with low boughs, easily climbable even for this Old Knight, and there he sat, cloak pulled tightly around him, awaiting the approaching light.

The light slowly bobbed it’s way towards the clearing, he wondered if perhaps it was a greeting party, perhaps Mith had actually organized something in advance for once in his life, but knowing the young Mage as he did, he doubted it, although the young mage was very advanced with his spells and casting, he didn’t think very far ahead.

The old Knight looked up at the light again, there was something odd about it, he then realised that it was bobbing along at about the height of the trees, staring at the light he watched it move and sway, it was obviously being held, and the stride was long, match that with the height led him to believe that either a troll, ettin or some kind of large creature was carrying it, so no greeting party then, well, no friendly greeting party, so he may as well wait here until the creature got closer or left.

After several minutes the light had got closer, he could now make out several ettins shambling along together grunting and moaning at each other, nothing to note but just a little strange, as he watched them approach a flicker of light to his left caught his attention, he turned to look and then the flicker came again, this time stronger and brighter than before, with a tinge of blue..
“A Moongate” he said to himself, Mith, he must be coming through, he looked back at the ettins hoping they had not noticed, they had, and were moving towards the blue light, a lot faster than they were moving earlier, they were a lot closer than he was too.
He had to move fast, he jumped down from the tree with a heavy thud, and headed in the direction of the appearing moongate.
As he ran along he was working out how he was going to approach the moongate, there were at least four to five ettins, normally not a problem, stealth was not an option as they were a lot closer to the gate than he was, so he did not have time to dispatch each ettin and keep his back clear of foes, couldn’t be helped, if Mith was coming through he’d need his assistance.

As he approached the first ettin he released the clasp on his sword and it rang as it was pulled from it’s sheath, as the ettin turned to look what the sound was, he swung his sword and sliced through the ettins calf, no time to finish it, he strode on, hearing the ettin roar as it collapsed behind him, there was the second but it was already aware of him, it swung it’s club at him, with his momentum he dived into a roll, easily missing the club and as he came up he saw the creatures exposed side and stuck the sword under the creatures arm between it’s ribs, he turned and yanked the sword free, the creature gasped, dropped the club and grabbed it’s chest, before falling forward, He turned to continue the chase and that’s when he was hit with a massive wooden club, he was hit so hard he was lifted from the ground and sent hurtling towards a tree stump, he hit it head first, and his last thought was how he was going to repair his armour.

He took a gasp of air, it hurt to breath, there was a tightness around his chest and his head throbbed, he slowly opened his eyes, one eye wouldn’t open fully and he rubbed it with the palm of his hand, he felt the caked blood crumble away, but it still wouldn’t open fully, he pushed himself of the ground and winced at the pain in his chest, he looked down and noticed the dent in the side of his armour, he thanked the gods for his armour, once again it had saved his life, he looked around for his helmet but couldn’t see it anywhere, then he remembered the ettins, and the moongate, he quickly got up, then the world decided to swing and he lost his balance and feel to his knees.
He waited for the world to right itself, took a few shallow breaths and looked around, he noticed it was nearly daybreak, several hours had passed since his encounter with the ettins, he looked up in the direction of the clearing, he could clearly see the path the ettins took straight to it, he slowly got up, looked around and noticed his sword a few feet away, he made his way to it, bent down slowly and picked it up, he turned it over and examined both sides, no stains, no dents, he sheathed it and turned towards the clearing, following in the footsteps of the ettins.
He stood on the edge of the clearing, holding his side and breathing as best he could, he examined the ground, the grass had been trampled by the ettins that much was clear, there was scorched grass to his right and some blood stains here and in the centre, he made his way to the centre and saw a footprint that was human in nature, more ettin prints and tracks leaving the clearing to the north, again, the path they took was easy to follow. The tracks leading away looked heavier than those leading into the clearing, so they were carrying something heavy.
There had been a fight, a short one at that, obviously some sort of fire spell had been cast, that and the moongate appearing in the same place as the one that brought him here, led him to believe Mith had come through, but why had the ettins taken him ? He looked around a little longer but noticed nothing else, he looked up at the path the ettins took, he then loosened his chest plate which made breathing a little less painful and began to follow the path.
He had tracked the ettins for nearly a day and as he cleared the mountain pass he noticed there was nowhere he could hide, he stayed close to the rocks and low to the ground, there were several trolls milling around, he recognised this area, it was the entrance to Despise, he was tempted to sneak passed the trolls and investigate the dungeon, but knew he would not be of any assistance to Mith in this condition, no, he needed to get help, get a group together to investigate further into the dungeon and find his friend, he knew of a place where adventurers gathered, he would have to make his way to the Rusty Anchor Tavern in Skara Brae and look for help there.
