This was the email from our ISP, sorry for any disruptions!
"Our Chicago location saw several minutes of packet loss due to a DDoS attack against a specific customer there a short while ago, because it involved >100 Gbps of botnet-generated traffic and saturated every upstream connection. Our automatic null-routing tool had hung and did not handle it, so we have manually applied a null-route. During the attack, most clients would have seen only light packet loss, but some may have seen very high loss, causing disconnections."
