Incentive and Dedication.
These two words are what keep players playing here on EVO. The Evo community requires a certain amount of incentive in order for it to remain and continue to grow. Without this incentive the population begins to wither, and the shard begins to die.
The dedication of the Staff members on EVO is truly what breathes contiguous life into EVO. This dedication is what builds player incentive, and allows the custom fun, of a game long past its prime, to never die! The dedication of staff on this shard is truly amazing, and I believe it is that, selfless, participation on their part that keeps the seeds of shard decay far far away.
What does any of this talk have to do with Voting stones? It's rather simple really. More Incentive and Dedication of course. This time, however, both incentive and dedication is reliant on the EVO community. Sure the Staff will once again produce the incentive and remain dedicated to the shard; but it is the community of players that need to be dedicated to voting daily, and this daily occurrence will only happen with the right incentive.
Whatever that incentive is, the following list of questions should be considered.
~What can be added that requires dedication, yet has a short term & long term incentive...
~What can be added to create incentive, yet still maintain a balanced player economy...
~What can be added so that incentive, and player dedication, lingers on...
Like I said, whatever it is, it has to be good-- and it must be good for all-- not catered to some.
Some games, I have played-- or still am playing-- have reward features built in, that occur on a daily basis.
Example: [Spin to win a prize game]
Every 24 hours, should a player log into the game, they are allowed to spin a wheel and get a prize/reward. The prizes are game related, of course, and range from epic gear/materials to mundane gear/materials. Dedication is built, using this reward system, by adding a reoccurring factor. That factor is the knowledge that you the player will be rewarded more times for being dedicated to logging in each day contiguously.
On day one we received one prize spin, but by logging in 5 days in a row we are now getting 2 spins daily to receive rewards. At 12 days we receive a third spin and are getting 3 prizes daily. This process usually goes on until a threshold is met. At this threshold the variables are either changed, or maintained. Should the variables be maintained than the number of daily rewards is capped at X rewards a day; as long as you log in daily. Should the variables change, then it is the prizes that change, for the better, and the number of spins is reset to 1.
Since we are talking about voting each day, and not logging in daily. The factors are a little different but the idea should remain the same.
I suggest the following items be considered for making a functioning daily prize machine:
~Moonstone/moonstone graphic-- to be used as stackable [account bound] currency.
~Slot Machine-- to be used as a prize vending machine.
~Vendor stone-- to be used as a Token ATM
How it all works.
Sturger logs in, and votes 8 times. Each vote gives him a Red Token [Moonstone]. Having been rewarded with Tokens for voting Sturger goes to the nearest prize vending machine area. Inside he finds more than he expected. Not 1 but 5 prize vending machines are in this prize house. Each one asks for a certain colored token type. The colors are: Red, Blue, Orange, Green, and Purple. In the corner there is a Vendor Stone called a Token ATM. Upon inspection, Sturger discovers that the ATM converts 'Prize Tokens' to higher grades of prize tokens. Reds to blues, blues to oranges, oranges to greens, and greens to purples. Finally, after looking around more thoroughly, he notes that prize machine rewards get better with each token color. So he decides to use three of his red tokens for prizes, and to turn 5 red tokens into 1 blue token to save for latter. At the end of the day Sturger is happy, because he got some stuff, has a goal set for the future, and cant wait to vote again, because the whole process was fun. Not to mention the 5k gold check, 10 ice ore, and 50 ebony logs he won as prizes sure didn't hurt.
In closing, I want to express that it doesn't matter what prizes are being used, here, as long as they are worthy of being called prizes. Besides who doesn't like useful free stuff? Also, as long as the three questions, I mentioned above, are being observed than this topic is being considered wisely, and I have faith that voting each day will soon be enjoyable, instead of a token drag.
