Just wanted to throw my opinon on this topic, and hope that it isn't look down on too harshly. Although I do understand the idea behind having random resource nodes, I fear that the excecution is counter productive, and here's why;
With all resources being randomized, it can take hours upon hours to harvest the ore or lumber required for even the small BOD's. I've been working on a small 20 Plate Legs in Agapite for several days now (mining for no less than one hour a day), with mining crossing the threshold of 160, this is still a daunting task. Because of the great number of custom ore (that I love), the chances of running into an Agapite vein are even more slim. So this encourages players to not go through the hours upon hours of mining random locations, and makes AFK mining tempting. With vast areas to mine, such as the Malas mines, coupled with the quick respawn rate of the nodes (half an hour?), one could strip mine a solid section easily, turn around, rinse, and repeat.
Yeah, I get that random nodes discourge the act of "rune book mining", but is that really so bad? It seems that the randomization just makes for a higher demand, and that's a good thing, but all the while seems that it would not hinder or prevent AFK resource collecting (and just make doing so more tempting).
Those are just my thoughts on the topic. If AFK mining had been the reason to institute random resource nodes, I think that making Fel more desireable to mine from would be the cure. Currently, with the use of Gargoyle Pickaxes and Axes, mining in Fel really has no benefit. If static resourses were in place, I feel it would help bolster the in game economy, rather than hinder it. We may even *gasp* begin seeing players become more interested in completing BOD's and start trading deeds.
