So, I travel a lot, in game, and remember the old times when I was just learning the UO world map. Recently I felt the need to check out all the old Moongate locations; which have been turned off and left as dirt patches.
My idea, today, is to turn those dirt patches in to something useful again. Most of what I propose is borrowed from a game called 'Elder Scrolls'. Throughout the game series there are Shrine Stones, which grant a permanent bonus of some sort.
My suggestion would be to add 'Shrines of the Fallen' in these locations, which add Bonuses to a players: resistances, to hit, +X-skill, hit points, stamina points, mana points, +luck, weapon slayer type X [Randomized] and any other bonuses Staff dreams appropriate.
'Shrines of the Fallen' background context: the shrines were placed, at these old Moon-gate locations, in memory of a long dead Legendary Adventurer, Tradesman, or Nobility.
Once a day, for the cost of 10k gold, [or more] anyone can tithe gold at these shrines for a 2-4 hour blessing. This blessing lasts through death, is a separate entity of its own, which doesn't stack with buffs, it just exists before other buffs are applied; and can not be dispelled.
[note] I mention a daily alottment and time duration so that these 'Shrine Blessings' do not make players OP.
I also recommend a quest be involved, for each shrine, some how; points at Expo-- this is where you come in.
@ Expo-- Perhaps you could write some amazing background stories which send us off looking for books/tomes that are secreted away in new, and old dungeons thought the facets. We, the players, than gather these tomes, and bring them to the shrines. Once there, we double click the shrine, it asks us for the password, than grants us a targeting cursor, and we, the player, target the tome which unlocks access to that shrines blessing.

I like this idea alot, Kane and i were just discussing the "Black Gate" storyline and were talking about what to do with the empty mounds...secret moongates that open randomly each month to special locations? Shrines are a cool itea, secret vendor stones that give rewards for collecting items. we will add something ty for the ideas
