The chat system should be a regional chat. For instance if you're in Britain your message will display on the screen as : <Britain> Captain Savant : Hello Evolution UO! or <Despise> Captain Savant : Barracoon to easy.

I know the option is available with our chat system.  The Shard I came from before was set up this way. Every region had its own display. This would cut back on the spam worldwide that annoys most people. The chat system can be used to PM if you would like to chat with other people.  I constantly see messages from the staff asking players to sue specific chat channels.  This would prevent people from abusing the chat system as a grief mechanism. I believe it would boost player interction as well. Thats all for now.  Have a nice day Staff, Keep up the good work.

I feel that the PVP global channel is not needed and only encourages griefing.  Any player flagged in combat should also be omitted from general chat.

PVP smack talk should be local screen only and allow players to back away from each other if they have had enough.

The pvp channel is an optional channel, you can monitor it or turn it off in [c options

I'd like to echo the points stated here. Having been on the shard for just shy of 11 months, I have never once thought, "boy, am I glad that person is able to publicly self-sooth in PVP chat". It provides no positive impact on game play and has been the source of many, many avoidable situations.

Regional global chat would also be a welcome system to give a test run and would go hand-in-hand with no PVP chat. Many of us want to encourage player-player interactions, but as it stands, the chat system reduces the need to be in proximity of any other player. Needing to be in the same region will be a step in encouraging a closer knit community.

Not sure it would be a wise system to have here, anyone in Fel would automaticaly have their location know and would become prey to those who pk with a passion :) unless the facet isn't displayed.

Dungeons are separate regions from cities. If someone was chatting in a dungeon, only people in that specific dungeon could see it.

EDIT:
Just had an additional thought about the regions. This could be used to implement specific chatting areas. People could chat about buying and selling in Trinsic, basic questions in Britain or Serpent's Hold, PVP related chat in Jhelom, etc. Encouraging people to populate specific areas for a specific need would be great feature.

Yes I know how to turn it off.  My point was that smack talk at length becomes very destructive PVP so removing the channel would localize the discussions keeping those not involved in a current discussion out of it.

Another option aside from the regional chat would be implementing the chat window that is on the toolbar. There could be rooms for specific needs: general questions, trade, hanging out, and of course the ever popular complaining/moaning room.

There would be no need to ask someone to turn off such and such a channel, because you would have to actively join the chat after logging into the game. This would also avoid the spam bots ability to flood everyone with system messages.

Meeko.....what would be the difference between the "PvP trash-talking" in the PvP channel compared to the "PvP trash-talking" in a regional chat channel ? THERE WOULDNT BE ANY DIFFERENCE!!!!!

People in that area would have to put up with it anyways. Sure "turn the channel off" and you wont have to put up with it, but that would make adding regional chat a total waste of time for Dante and the other coders for the shard. If people dont want to hear the "trash talking"(whning) then they need to turn the PvP channel off, and to control the "PvP trash-talking" in global chat, a new policy concerning that issue needs to implimented and enforced, anyone "trash-talking" about any PvP action needs to be reported and jail time and possable bans should be imposed if people continue to do it after they have been informed of the change.

I'm for cutting chat completely with the exception of a help channel for new players.  If pvp'ers wanna trash talk, get on screen with each other and type away.  Can also do without the frequent buy/sell spam.  Isn't there a rule limiting that to no more than once every 30 min?  Eliminating public chat, except for one reason, seems simple and preferable over piling more other work on staff.

When I said regional chat I wasn't talking about a channel.  I was talking about the text that goes on above your head that you have to be within so many tiles to see.
