My first idea/qualm is... why are escort NPC's only traveling to four destinations? In the glory days, NPC escorts asked to go to any of the thirteen-- UO vanilla-- cities on a regular basis. I ask that more destinations be added, and also, that the Compassion Virtue actually do something... NPC Discounts? .. more gold/tokens/something from NPC escorts at higher tiers of the Compassion Virtue?
Now, my second idea, with concerns to NPC escorting, hinges on the fun loving crazy Escorts who wanted to be led into/to a dungeon, and be left alone with monsters all around them.
What if you were able to lead a-- 'Seeker of Adventure'-- NPC escort, to a dungeon, and instead of giving you gold, he/she gave you a monster contract. Then you had to kill the monsters required, without letting him/her die. This seems simple, but relax and wait for it...
Most dungeons have several different layers of MoB's to fight. Take Shame for instance. On level one it's earth elemental's and scorpians, but the good ole boy/girl you brought to Shame wants to fight Blood Elemental's. That would mean dragging along an untested blade (Mage, Ranger, Necromancer) deep into shames lowest levels.
Think how much fun that might be, especially if the rewards for succeeding were rich enough.
A few other variables I would consider, would be follower cost. These NPC's escorts should cost 2 slots, at minimum, and 5 to 6 max. I doubt there is anything like leaving your pets behind and walking an NPC down to shame level five to kill 12 blood elemental's on foot.
Last but not least, did someone say time limit? The disadvantages/challenges here are endless, but the fun is all that matters to me in the end.
Anyways those are my thoughts on that. I really get bored with escorting NPC's, but there is plenty of fun waiting to be unleashed here.
