Just a thought but how about a deed (either a rare from BODS or drop or ED) that can reset a level-able item's points spent so that a player could change where he/she puts the points.  I'm still just not quite sure how this would affect the crafter market.

No sorry, the weapons are permanent and must be sold and traded in game.  If players make mistakes, they have to craft a new one and will continually improve the combinations,  It keeps the vendor markets going with commerce by selling the old
