Tonight I was talking with my friend Graft, one of the great emissaries for the NEW Guild, and the subject of the banned players came up.

Graft had an idea and asked if I would post it for him on the forums.

With the recent permanent banning of several players for exploiting, perhaps we should use something from real life to handle their belongings instead of the staff just deleting them all.

A Governemnt Impound Auction.

With the large number of items and some of the very rare items that are doubtless to have been seized from them, perhaps it would be better to auction those items off instead.  As this would definitely be worth a very large stock of gold, Evolution Dollars, Tokens, and Evolution Coins being removed from the server in the process.  It would make things easier on Domino and Company as they would not have to create new stuff for a Staff Auction or two, or at least they would not have to create as many new items if they spread the items out over two or three Staff Auctions.

Perhaps the items are all ready destroyed, but if they have not this would be a way to keep some rare items in game that the Staff could choose to keep amongst the player base; instead of them being lost forever to the players.

Perhaps as mystery bags, only open to new accounts, for some of the items that are not deemed to powerful or unbalanced.

I'm sensitive to what, I believe it was Dante, said in chat about "the mess" he'll have to clean up after them.  (He was trying to encourage and warn people to remove their vendors from the Thunderdome Mall before he had to deal with the mess).

I can understand him wanting to just delete it all and be done with it. We're talking about sorting through at least 7 veteran players-worth of stuff, ugh! I just don't think he/they have the time to do that. Maybe he could have their houses fall and just have us scavengers go through it and clean up the mess for him.

During the recent house drops I was at one of those hosted ones. We were all gathered at the edges of the house, the house dropped and people rushed in.  There was NOTHING left under a minute.  I just sat there and watched all that stuff vanish and didn't move until I realized it was all gone--that's how quick it was.

Another thing to consider: this banishment was because of a gold exploit--meaning quite probably everything in their houses and banks was generated into stuff with gold that shouldn't have been in the game in the first place.  This kinda makes everything they owned illegal.  It reminds me of the gold duppers in UO.  Years ago they started duping gold and dumping it into UO's economy...it was the beginning of the end and even to this day they haven't and never will recover a solid economy.  Very sad.

We have a great team that seems to want to not let that happen to us.   :)

The economy is already reeling from this. Prices have been artificially inflated when players can do this kind of thing. Kane will hopefully sort it out and nuke a lot of illegal gold.

I agree with Smiling Death, but only regarding the idea of preserving hard to find items. Things that were created by staff a long  time ago, and you don't see to many of them these days.

Other than that, lets just burn it with the delete button. I never really liked the idea of house drops. OSI house drops were the best, but I always felt-- once i stumbled on one-- that I didn't earn all the plunder. Guess that's just me.

Oh I agree with you on this point so much!  Zap the gold and goodies into the ether!

I went to the auction held at the end of August, my first. It shocked me the amount of gold and EDs people were bidding for items.  I had saved up a measly 100 EDs and was hoping to win the "13th"
Talisman and had already typed 10 EDs as my bid when someone else beat me to it by starting the bid at 350 EDs, ouch!  lol  The final price was much much higher.  Even though that talisman is probably considered a "rare" it is a newbie talisman at best but would have offered me a bit more protection and 13 more gold points.  As the auction continued, people were casually bidding 1000-10,000 EDs and loads of gold for items.  :o I realized I was in the wrong place and saw no need to come to any more auctions until my change purse was a bit more full.

In the defense of vet players, I have bought some very nice deco, armor and scrolls from them for very reasonable prices.  And for all the people who have outright given me valuable things and shown me, not just told me, how to better play the game you have no idea what your kindness has meant to me.  I now follow your lead and try to help new players where I can.

Who all was banned. I just returned recently and it's hard to tell if they just quit while I was away or if they were cheating

We arent allowed to speak of who gets banned.  I cannot remember if its in the rules, or is left as general knowledge, but trust me, its NOT allowed by Staff.

Well that makes no sense. They are banned they cheated so unless there are plans to let them play again their is no reason to keep it quiet. Obviously thunder was one of the unfortunate. But some of my friends from back when I played don't log in anymore and I was just hoping that they weren't cheating.

Anyone who cheats/exploits is a very bad person & is NEVER "unfortunate"! I say good-riddens to trashy behavior.

As for your friends, perhaps ask in general forum if anyways seen or heard from xyz.  Many of us know who the vets are & can help you find out what your seeking.

*hugs*
