Not a fan of the idea, it would lower the value of augs and their rarety

What about taking 5 augments of a similar type and combining them for a random version of the next augment up? Or with skills you can take 3-5 of a type and combine them for a new random skill. You could add in rare augments that don't drop with this new system and make ALL augments at least have value.

the reason they are so "rare" and valuable. is because of the sheer amount of crap and useless augs in the drop pool.

i like Volundr's idea to.  any kind of trade in or upgrade system would be nice.  even change it to turn in xx amount for a random aug. that way it wouldnt hurt anyones parry augment market shares as bad  ::)

ideally it would be cool if the fat was cut and there were more usefull ones added.

would be good to have a use for all those useless augments but i think it should be random like the ps exchange

The augment system always reminded me of Diablo2. So if an augment system is to be added it should encompass the whole lot of them. After that think of combo's.   A + B + C equals 1 of three possibilities: New augment type, upgraded augment type, or improved augment type.

  Examples:

   1) New augments are obvious I leave those to the Staff to figure out.

   2) The following is an Upgrade variant:    Take the augments for +1 and +5 stats/attributes. This covers Dex, Str, and Int.  Combine the three +1 augments and a new augment is born that grants: +1 Dex, +1 Str, and +1 Int. Now set the socket cost for this rune to 1. This process should be allowed to be repeated; however it might take five +1 Dex, +1 Str, and +1 Int augments to combine for a single +2 Dex, +2 Str, and +2 Int augment, and the socket cost might be slightly increased. {1.30  then added to all other socket costs and rounded up to determine final cost}

   3) The following is an improved augment:    Take the +5 augments mentioned in example 2). In this case combine say 15 of each +5 augment type: Dex, Str, and Int. While trying to make an upgraded augment, something rare happens instead; the crafter makes a +5 Str, +10hp, and +15 Damage increase augment that doesn't have a socket cost!

Should an augment system be made those boring augments will have a purpose again, and we the population will have hours and hours-- if not years-- of discovery ahead of us.

P.S. Long live EVO-Shard: but the cookie cutter trendy min-max gear humpers need to be thrown into the fire, and a plethora of chaos needs to be added to the battle field. [both PvE, & PvP] This I say so that every time you kill something it always make you twitch for a second while you go over the loot on the corpse.   ::) OOOOOOHHHHH SHIIINEEEEY!

(mutters) I'm just so sick of hearing, you should wear this this this and this and yer done, not eat ppl and laugh at them. That's not UO (Period)    <----- see what I did there...     8)

Some adjustments to the augment system would be cool, not saying you could get more Parry or more Anatomy, but a trade in system to buff up or augment the augments would be pretty sweet.  Would give players a reason to pick up those "useless" or undesirable augs.  On the flip side, that would encourage more hoarding *looking at you Thunder*, and increase the item count on the shard.

*Sturger*  Don't blame players for taking advantage of current game mechanics, let's face it, nothing is going to top maxing out Eval Int for pure unbridled damage output with our current pvp climate, or the common tactics for PvM (Stacking Parry, flipping on Vamp Form and Curse Weapon to go toe to toe with some of the nasty Dragons).  Players utilize these tactics because currently, they are the most effective.  You can't expect to get far, rocking noob green Apprentice Gear to take on Stygian or the Mithril Quest.

PS- This is my 100th post.

I like where everyone is going with this, the main idea behind my augment exchange proposal earlier was to make lower end augments have a monetary value so that new players finding them would be able to sell them. Lowering the item count is another good reason to do so. I like the idea of a random exchange since it keeps augments moving out of the system, but I would like to add in that top end augments should be able to be exchanged or maybe mixed with other items to allow for a new random top end augment. This would keep people from having 300 of a less than popular top end augment.

I also like the idea of replacing the current augments with a system that has more diversity in it, but thats unrealistic as so many augments are currently socketed into gear. Maybe just adding a few new ones. Or maybe inventing properties that don't exist on armor currently? 1% Obscurement augment? I'd buy that.

 @ Emperor_Norton

Thanks for helping everyone figure out what gear I am wearing.  8)

I do pretty well with my junk armor; and that is what it is... replace-able JUNK. You might not fair better then me while wearing it... keeping in mind that I have yet to bring along pets. But that's another topic for discussion.

And no, you're right, I am not at that level of gear-- or skill-- yet. Those dragons would BBQ me from 8 tiles out and make a snack of me when they had nothing better to do.

UO is a thrill to me. EVO-shard is a love affair. Those factors combined, make me take my time playing, so that I might enjoy every ounce of fun packed within the walls of the realm. 14 years of min-maxing will do that to yah. So please do not judge me for what I am currently doing. I can drop XXX amount of dollars on this shard, and have it all. But what would that prove? Nothing. I may donate just for the heck of it though.  (shrugs) I probably should...  :D I'm just lazy I guess when it comes to donating.

As far as your last paragraph, I think your wrong. The bat-wing sandals I am wearing prove you thus. My point is simple, adding something to the game changes everything-- it is however what you add that makes it so. Structure, fundamentals, and options are what is needed here on EVO-shard. Couple that with the great staff, and the emerging player economy, and everything else is just some ones elses opinion... and opinions, I am told, are like butt holes.
