I'd personally been talking with people about the idea that you can place something like a mining "rig" on your house plot that's like the ore carts( since the don't give the custom ores ) that lets you spend a fuel source (which possible could be linked to a chest in it ) and would mine every x minutes and is put into a chest (also in it ) and will mine for you automatically and you don't need to be on or you can be afk in your house, as long as you have fuel in it.
It's kinda just an iron golem that has a cost in fuel for you to be able to afk legally
or if the ore cart could be updated to allow custom ores that would be cool too
You could do like a Lumber saw which would do the same thing for wood, and similar for other resources if there are any (not sure).

There is a reason that afk resource gathering is against the rules. Don't think they will put in an item that afk gathers.
Mining carts, and the deeded log, Both give resources daily for free as long as you own them and they are placed on your plots, I think it would be cool atleast for them to add the custom resources to them.
