If GM's are going to announce an event in Five Minutes can they please also post a server time for the event.  The post that comes up does not have a time on it. 

Can GM's please not interfere with game play;  this happened to me twice recently; the most recent was last night while a guild mate and I were doing the Terra Keep spawn. 

well if an event is announced for 5 minutes from, say, now... what is the point of putting a server time? it's in 5 minutes! look at your clock and act accordingly. dur?

Unless you are talking about those annoying little gold plaques that pop up and totally wreck the ability to run... Then yeah, a time would be nice... or a timer that will ERASE the dumb thing from the screen when the posted time (I.e 5 minutes etc) is up. It's irritating to leave your character online while cooking or dealing with real life issues and coming back to see 3 of these on the screen and all of them are expired.

So if THAT is what thunder is meaning then I agree.

Now as for GM interference, c'mon Thunder.. what fun is it to be a GM if you can't interfere?

  I'm with Thunder on this one... plaque or no plaque... if the gm has the ability to type a message, then they are perfectly capable of stating: GM event at 5pm server time or 5:19 server time...

If the GM has typed the message, and it has appeared in the bottom left corner of the play screen, then it's on you if you are too dense to go "Oh 5 minutes, cool I can finish this... whatever.. and go" and then most give a three minute warning and a two minute warning. Then an "It's starting"  warning and a meet at... wherever to join.


I stand by my statement before. As players you need to take initiative and LOOK AT THE CLOCK. It isn't that hard as computers have one on the screen. So stop being lazy and do something for yourselves.


Seems UO players have gotten lazy. Skill balls make grinding skills unnecessary, gold flies to you when a monster dies. gone are the days of picking through the monster's corpse and risking another beast coming up and killing you. Now THAT was hunting at it's craziest.


 Now the gold plaques need a server time on them, or a timer that makes them go bye bye when the event has started.

  So, what do I do when I log on and the plaque is up?  Do I guess the amount of time that has gone by since the event was posted?

  Listen. I'm not arguing your point... your point is valid-- if you get the plaque, while adventuring in UO-EVO, its on you to make it to the event on time.

  However, I have gotten plaques [up] as I have logged in, which leaves you wondering how much time you have left.  Not to mention there are differentiating times for events. If the times were the same every day, and always in five minutes from the time the plaque was posted, there would be no reason for adding a time to the event plague. But like I said, times should be added, as a safe guard, when a for sure time is capable of being advertised.

  @ Soarya. You argue the players are lazy, I agree. However, you have forgotten to mention that the event posters are just as lazy when not posting a time-- when feasible-- for the events that are posted on a plaque.

It's Soaryn. One a not two, and please note that I said that there needed to be a timer that took the plaque DOWN after the time is up. Thus you wouldn't log in and see anything unless the plaque is current

I say leave it the way it is. If not, how about a date and time stamp on PM's that are sent. hasn't been a problem before. people are getting too lazy. Play the game and just have fun

I have instructed all the gms to limit the use of the gold plaques for major events only that will last all day.  We did add the global PM command that I will be using to announce events and major news.  The gm that was involved in this particular situation was trying to help (gms are really not supposed to help resurrect anyone) but I did remind him that players, especially vets are on their own and gm are not allowed to interfere in game play.


We do give only a 5-10 min window when announcing random events.  It is to reward the players that are currently online and playing...


I do have daily events usually at noon and 7pm when time permits.  Also we post a calendar of gm planned events that you can make plans to attend.


I encourage players to plan and add events monthly to fill out the calendar with fun, themed activities for everyone to look forward to.
