UOSteam issues

OK, so its been about 3 weeks since I have messed with UOS. Yesterday  I thought I would try a few things like uninstall/re-install and also the registry hack listed on UOS`s website. That seemed to work, so I thought. It finally looks like it wants to load up but now I am getting this error and it doesn`t make much sense to me, so i thought i`d throw it out there and see if any of you have had this similar situation. The error I am now gettin is this:

fatal:
Failed to open `map0.mul` from HD using a maximum install. Either this file is not readable, your system needs to be rebooted or the file does not exist and you either need to reinstall or switch to a non maximum install.

So I get what its saying mostly, but I don`t understand the whole maximum install thing. What does that mean? I have rebooted, I have reinstalled. It is pointed at the exact same directory Razor is (and uses just fine) but now instead of  the typical low memory BS I am now getting this.

Any help, idea`s, advice would be greatly appreciated. I am using Razor exclusively anymore but I do miss my old macro`s and a few scripts I had with steam that I can`t seem to reproduce in Razor. So while I can and have been living without UOS, it sure would be nice if I could get this damn thing to work. >:(

Thanks!

*edit*
It just occured to me "map0.mul" ........ maybe this is why UO-Carto doesn`t work either? I really have no clue, just kind of popped in my head when I was just bootin up Razor to play and seen the uocarto shortcut...... I dunno, prolly nothin.

I have never had that problem with UOSTEAM before.

Could you type in the info for the directory you are having it connect to please?
Also do you have the play.uoevolution.com and the port correct?
Have the custom client downloaded?

Steam has a built in mapping app which is probably why its looking for the*.mul files. If you open the directory your UO client is installed to, you need to make sure you have the 6 map files map?.mul (where the ? is sequentialy the integers 0 through 5).   If I recall correctly the UO client itself no longer needs these files to run, so some installations do not provide these files. I ran into this along time ago so I remember having to pull them from an older UO install.  UO cartographer and UOAM need these files as well.

My path is pointed at c/progfiles/downloads/uoevolution/client.exe

In Razor it doesnt need the exe. But in UOS it wont list the path unless I include exe. within the evo folder.

I did check for the 0-6 map muls and located all but #6. I thought i'd nab them out of my EA UO folder but they are non existant there.

Razor is pointed at the exact same client path and has zero issues starting.

Maybe I need to delete/re-download,install a fresh evo custom client?

Seems to be where the problem lies?

That is odd that steam wants the executable listed, it should only need the directory.  And you have all 6 map files, it's 0 - 5, so you should be good there.

I would perhaps uninstall steam, delete your currently downloaded installer, and download a new copy from www.uosteam.com. The version is 1.05 and the file name when downloaded is UOS_Latest.exe

You mentioned you did a registry hack from the steam site? I did a cursory search of the site and it's wiki but did not see mention of this. What site did you download steam from originally?

Also, what version of windows are you running on?

I`m sorry I forgot to reply with the good news. After a fresh install of Evo Custom client and another fresh install of UOS. Everything is back to working %50 of the time.  I guess this is as good as UOS is going to get for me. At least its better than not working %100 of the time.

Thanks alot for the replies and help with my struggle!  ;D
