Regeant Key quest - White stick

I'm on the last part of the quest and I've been spending a week trying to find the white stick. Is there a particular area it likes to spawn in that others have found?
I've been doing the control shift thing, but it's like looking for a needle in a stack of needles.

when i did the quest i was fortunate to find the stick few screens away from the quest giver. when i wanted to do the quest again i did not find it. it spawns in yew woods. its a large area.

  make sure to pick up any sharpening stones also... they might be place holders for a white stick spawn

It can spawn inside the city of Yew as well as the forest around it.  Pay close attention to the roads as well.

I've found a couple of them by logging in first thing and checking - like around 5 am server time.
