Shortly after I started playing I was given a werewolf.  Recently I've been doing town invasions whenever the opportunity arises.


For some reason my werewolf will suddenly go grey, making it where I can heal it (unless I too wish to go grey).  Sometimes, right after turning he will start attacking me.  This is always unprovoked.  The only action I take during these invasions is to give a guard command and then stealth around, leading my pet to enemies and vetting when needed.


The oddest example was this:  My wolf went grey, so I stopped vetting.  When his health dropped, I hopped onto him and ran several screens away from the spawn.  Finding a quiet area I dismounted and waited for him to go blue again.  When he did, I began to vet him.  Upon use of the second bandage he went grey and started attacking me again.


Does anyone have a clue what is going on here?  I have no idea what skills it might have, as all skill points had been used before I was given it.

Sounds like you see your werewolf going grey because it is attacking you. In a general case, when someone (or something) attacks you, they turn grey. This means you are free to attack them back without flagging criminal yourself. Has anyone else commented if they see it going grey too?

Secondly, you need a rather high level of animal lore (over 120) to keep the werewolf in line. That, and a fair amount of feeding too to keep its loyalty high.

I know what going grey means. 


My natural lore is 120, higher with gear.  My adjusted Taming is 130+.


I just can't figure out why it is randomly attacking me.  [size=78%]I haven't asked anyone else if the wolf is showing up grey to them, although at least one other person has watched it kill me. *shrug*[/size]


Most of the time it will be in a pack of enemies, I will be nearby, then suddenly he pops grey and tries to kill me.


If a GM or admin has any input it would be great to hear.

I point out the distinction because there is grey - criminal and grey - freely attackable. Grey - freely attackable only appears grey to you. Which is what I'm suggesting is happening to your pet. An onlooker can confirm it by seeing if the werewolf still appears blue to them (therefore not flagged criminal). You won't turn grey yourself when healing the werewolf if this is the case.

Hearing from other owners, I'll point out 120-130 lore is still going to have issues with your werewolf turning on you. Check its loyalty when it attacks you and see if it's below wonderfully happy.

I had the same issue with my vollems from Time to time but it vanished when I upped my taming to 130 strangely enough. Still at 120 lore but I never get ignored commands

Well, did another invasion and the today's triple champ. 


At both my pet went grey to me (was still blue to everyone else, I asked).  Checked happiness constantly and was always "Wonderfully".  Even after he goes grey and attacks me, he still obeys my commands perfectly.  I know for a fact that I'm not accidentally attacking him or anything like that, nor am I personally going grey, causing him to aggro on me for any reason. 


It's really weird and a bit annoying. Feeling like I have to do nothing but stealth-lead him around to mobs, instead of also being able to attack them myself, just for fear of my own pet killing me.


I have not yet had a chance to find better +lore gear, but, given that he stays at max happiness and follows my commands perfectly, does it really sound like my taming/lore levels are the problem here?  Heck, when I mess with my hellhound pack THEY lose happiness far faster than my WW.

Heaven forbid that I do an update with some information about what was actually asked or commented about, regarding grey status and happiness.

Friend of mine had this EXACT same issue 2 years ago.


Then he got 130 lore ( 2 +5 animal lore sockets ) and the problem disappeared for him.


I don't use pets so I don't know. Also yea, he said werewolves were dumb because they ate to much. But when he was able to LOLFACEROLLOL stuff I don't think he shoulda been allowed to complain.
