The rules I read before I started an account here stated that world chat should remain clean. But it seems that there is not enforcement of that rule.
I don't expect chat to be G-rated or even PG, but In the week I have been playing I have seen a lot of really vulgar, tasteless, juvenile chat.
Is this the real standard here? If so, my wife and daughter will not be playing here, and if they are not, I will not.

Yes we do enforce rude or nasty chat.  If there is no gm online, please note the player and the time so we can review the logs.  It is hard to police the chat and we do our best to keep the public chat focused on the game and pleasant for all

You can go into your settings and block folks.  I do this to players that spam the trade chat.

OK, kewl. that was the only concern I had. I am glad to hear this. My wife will start an account tomorrow.
BTW, is there anything special we need to do to start her account?

If you are playing from the same IP you need to ask the Admins to set up the account.

I do recommend setting your daughters vulgarity filter when she has her own account.

How to set this: Open Paper Doll --> Options --> Bottom Most Tab (on the right) --> Check Mark the Filter Obscenity Box.

This covers most swear words-- though a lot has changed since 1997-- to protect little eyes from; also, you can filter out certain players, in game chat from here, as well.  ::Note:: Game chat and world chat are on different filters programs. One is built into the game mechanics, while the other is an additional over lap, added much later on.

To filter out players from world chat:  type [c  --> click the M (at the top right) --> Check Mark the Public Box (found on the right under Channels) --> Then pick an choose names to filter from the list on the left side.

Things to note when filtering players from world chat:

   1) Filtered names/players are put on the Ignores list, under views. Going into the Ignores list allows you to lift a filter ban from players (mostly used when a player is mistakenly added to a filter list).

   2) When you type [c you are given a single list of names. This list depends on the channel, or channels, you have chosen to view. To view an entire list of names look for a single arrow-- pointing down-- just above the channel name you are currently in (always found top middle). Clicking this arrow shows you more names, alphabetically, until there are no more names to be found in the channels you have chosen to view.

I hope this helps your daughter play on the EVO shard, without worry of vulgarity. EVO is the best free shard to play on, hands down. It's the community of players, and the great staff/content which make it so. Most of us are rule followers, only a few bad apples, here and there.  8)
