Hi Everyone,
I have been playing on UOE for about a month and a half, so my knowledge isn't as great as some, but I'd like to offer some advice, and ask questions at the same time.  When I first started playing, I felt like there was too much information to process, but now that I have been taming, breeding, and leveling pets for over a month, I have a lot of questions.

I welcome all the players to contribute their experience and I welcome your criticism on both my questions and advice.  I will keep the original post updated with others' advice, comments, and answers to my own questions.

I've seen a lot of conflicting information on the forums, so I'll try to test everyone's advice/theories before listing them as true.
Mods, if I posted this in the wrong forum, please move accordingly? Or delete and I can remake.

Breeding tips:
1. In the first few generations, if you are short pet skill points you can save some points by making the combined parent resistances/health odd.  Example. Male - 75 physical, Female 74 Physical, baby will have 74.5, rounded up to 75!
2. Some stats can train pretty high just by fighting.  I got my CuSide to str-630 dex-128 int-162 just by afk fighting training elementals.  The babies will come out with higher stats as well, and less points you'll have to spend in the future.
3. Save your points for armor and resists (level 10 unlock and level 20 unlock)! Your pets will take a lot less damage, allowing you to fight harder monsters.
4. According to patch notes, chance to breed depends on animal lore, taming, and luck, augmented by pet generation.  So wear your full taming suit when breeding.
5. With some higher level pets, you will fail, a LOT. Just keep at it.
6. Remember, a greater dragon with high health and worse DNA is better for breeding than a low hp GD with good DNA, as you don't have to dump 200-300 points into HP.
7. If the pet isn't too rare, save your +1 pet level deeds.
8. At the same time, if a rare 4 breed pet has good DNA, it might be worth getting it up to higher levels with level deeds to breed them!

Taming tips:
1. Use Spellweaving spell, Ethereal Voyage on monsters that fight back.  Walk off screen, invis, cast EthV, run back and spam tame pet with your taming gear equipped, with a 6 strength Spellweaving focus, you'll have plenty of time to tame it.
2. You can tame CuSide's fairly easy by putting a 1 slot animal between yourself and the cu in a tight corridor.  The cu won't be able to go through you, and you can tame through the docile pet.
3. If something is too hard, you can always ask a friend to come with you and heal you nonstop while peacemaking the pet.

Pet Leveling tips:
1. High hp mobs that are easy to kill give a ton of xp. eg. rotting corpses, gauntlet bosses, etc.
2. Once you hit 10, raise your resists!
3. Once you hit 30, max out your armor!
4. If you are training an AFS or a regular fire steed, you can cast corpse skin on monsters to lower their fire resist, increasing pet damage both from melee attack and their FIRE BREATH (yes it exists)!
5. Discordance lowers resist as well.
6. If you have a weak pet, you can just have the pet hit any monster once, and kill it yourself and your pet will get the xp.
7. Wrong dungeon trammel has the best spawns to kill for leveling pets. There are two locations, one east and one west side of the first level. The juka jailers and red troll give about 10-25k xp per kill. They die pretty fast but what makes it the best pet leveling area is they re-spawn almost instantly. You can sit there and grind out levels 1-30 in maybe 45-1hour easily. Contributed by Blackmamba and verified! Great xp, mobs don't hit too hard but they run, so prepare to chase them.

Questions:
1. How does Animal Taming, Animal lore, and luck contribute to the following:

  • a. Taming - I know lore and taming, but what about luck.  Is number of breeds affected?
  • b. Breeding - Any numbers, are lore/luck/taming equal?
  • c. Claiming babies - Is it only during conception, or during claiming as well we should be wearing our taming gear? Personal reasoning - I've had extraordinary babies with no luck while in low lore, low taming. I've had weak babies with 150lore/150taming/1600uck. I've had sterile babies and those with 4 breeds.  I'm confused and frustrated, but if it's random, then I'll live with it, but I'd love to be able to control my destiny.
2. Is there a stat priority?  Meaning, when breeding and I have 3 different bracelets, 15taming, 14 lore, 50 luck, which should I be wearing? Is it possible to have the access to the mathematical formula or are we keeping that secret?
3. Is baby pet DNA random, or depends on luck/parents?
4. What is the range breakdown, on amount of pet skill points gained, per level depending on DNA.
  •     eg. A level 15 common pet has 115 points, yield about 8.1 per level, while an extraordinary pet has 600 points over 30 levels yielding 20 points per level.  So common is 6-10? 7-9? or just 8.1?  And extraordinary is 15-25? 19-21? or just exactly 20?
5. Are Baby Skill numbers random or do they depend on anything?  eg. my baby AFS has 130 wrestling, my partner's who I bred with, 170.
6. Special attacks.  Roar, poison fire breath, 300 points is a lot to spend.  I found a forum post that says from staff to not waste points unless the pet already has the ability, and a conflicting post that says don't waste points ever.  Which is the correct one?  MY AFS does 72 damage per fire breath on 70% resist.  I spent 10 points into fire breath and the damage is still at 72 on 70 resist.  I tried to time the abilities, thinking maybe it's frequency controlled, but that didn't seem to affect it either.  I don't want to spend anymore points that I'll never get back. :( help.
7. Pet Happiness, was something changed? my pets seem to lose happiness a LOT faster than before?  In a manner of active minutes, I've seen pets go from wonderfully happy to happy.  Sure there's a 1% chance they won't listen, but it happens constantly. I hope it's just not my own personal confirmation bias. If it is, I'll remove this question.

Thank you all in advance,
Alexandra.

Points per level of the pet are dependant upon the DNA Strength of the pet as well as Taming, Lore, and Vetinary according to the changes on the wiki.

Wish there was a test Center I could test our different levels of each and determine which one has a greater weight in the equation that determines it though.

Hi Smiling,

Can you please point out where points per level is shown?  I only found the last sentence in the following link which says it's 100% dependent on the DNA of the pet, and that the rest is all about breeding success chance.  Meaning, that number of skill points is only dependent on DNA and NOT on taming, lore, or vet as you said.

Yes the wiki does say that.  I see that I said according to the wiki for a reference, OK I messed that up.  Sorry about the confusion on this.

To properly reference what I said above.
The Patch notes here add some more info though.  http://uoevolution.com/forum/index.php?topic=7664.0

Version 118
Pet Breeding - Donation Pets: Donation pets now have their own category for Ability Points (No longer subject to the DNA Score)

Pet Breeding - Ability Points: The base min/max random numbers are based on the pets DNA Score (or donation).  The following skills will now add modifiers to those numbers: Animal Taming, Animal Lore and Veterinary.  High luck can also apply a bonus to the end score.  Players can figure out what skill matters where.

Pet Breeding - Experience Points: Reduced the amount awarded, holy cow was that explosive. (Willing to debate the current method if you have an opinion)

I cut out the stuff that didn't apply to this discussion though.  Apparently the wiki didn't receive all the info from the updates.

The wiki is never updated as fast as the dev logs because sometimes projects are covering many updates and Dante is waiting for me to finish.

Also, I will be attempting to post before the end of the week.. What you will see and what to expect in the next update.

I didn't want to derail your trait thread, Kane so I'm posting this question here - are there plans to make a pet's DNA score visible in shrunken form? For the purpose of honest and informed buying and selling? :)

The answer is yes Harper. After looking at Kane's pic's of upcoming awesomeness--again-- I believe the first picture is of a pet in shrunken form. The second picture is of him hovering over the dog with his mouse cursor.

   Hope that helps,

Ty Kane and Sturger, I see it now. I just plain missed it.. I don't know how. Stupid question on my part.

And since we're in a taming Q & A thread, I'd like to ask one that I've thought about myself and seen other people ask from time to time but I haven't seen an answer to yet. Not even a stab at it. I also couldn't find an answer on these forums.

I've seen it said repeatedly that saving points as pets level up instead of spending them grants a bonus. #1 Is that still true? #2 If it is true, at what point does this bonus arrive? On every level you don't spend points? One lump sum at level 30? Or level 50?

More of an opinion then fact since there is nothing in game at this time where it matters when you spend the points.  Only reason I can see waiting is to have a broader picture of the amount of points you will have so you can spend them correctly.

Now with traits this may not hold true... Since, as the pet levels up it can gain new traits and also have traits increase its tier as well..So if it the trait has ability points you need to spend on it to increase its power, you may not have enough if you spend them all sooner vs waiting until at the end.

Hope that makes sense.

It absolutely makes sense, Kane. Thank you :)
