Topic :   Question about Blacksmith Crafting

Hello all,

I am trying to make a Halberd with Hit lower attack, hit lower defense, and 2x Hit spells such as lightning, fireball, harm, etc. Not wanting leeches. What I keep running into is that it is relatively easy to get both hit lowers and 1 hit spell, but I can never get 2x hit spells with the hit lowers.... I am curious if the server generation limits this particular combination, if it is just incredibly rare, or if I am using the wrong method to achieve this goal. Here is what I have been doing (as it was how I was told to achieve greatest results). I have 380 Blacksmithy, 240 Arms Lore, 3940 luck on this suit, and have been using Toxic runic hammers with normal ingots. When I get a decent weapon with promising stats I then use either an Ice or Platinum runic hammer with the corresponding ingots to enhance the weapon. This doesnt ever seem to add anything to the weapon other than change the damage from whatever to cold, or change the weapon to a platinum weapon and nothing else. Any insight (from Kane please!) if there is a server cap, or from anyone as to how I could improve my strategy would be most helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

From what I can tell, from standard OSI/EA Ultima Online standards, item enhancing has a chance to change/improve the values of: resistances, durability, luck, or the requirements to wear certain armor. If you are enhancing a weapon there is the chance to change/improve the values of: damage type, durability, luck, or the requirements to wield the weapon being enhanced.

That is, unless staff has amended/customized this ruleset, the out come you are looking for is not found through item enhancement.

Also...

A crafted items potential for minimum/maximum properties is of course determined by the type of runic hammer a crafter is using. OSI/EA only has 7 types, but of course we have 13 types on Evolution. That said, I am unsure how many properties a platinum hammer grants as a minimum/maximum, but keep in mind a weapon has a pool of 24 potential properties to be crafted with.   For a Valorite runic hammer back in the day, 5 was both minimum and maximum.

Conclusion...

I believe you might be having a bit of bad luck in crafting a weapon with two hit (magery) spell's attached. Even if 10 was the minimum/maximum for a platinum runic hammer; that would still leave 14 other options, left out, for each weapon you crafted. Even less when you are using a lesser runic hammer.

I hope this helps you out Swine, and keep in mind, I am certainly not 100% on anything I mentioned here: since Evo-Staff has the option to change the default settings as they see fit.

Thank you Sturger, that is helpful. And I will take some of that into consideration. I think you are right on with the enhancements as all it seems to change is the durability and the damage type, such as physical to cold etc.

Im not sure if using a platinum hammer for the base would yield much better results though, as I tend to get the same results regardless of which hammer I use for the base with the only difference being the damage types. On the wiki all it shows for the different types of runics is how the damage is distributed in its types, such as cold, energy, physical etc. So I dont think the type of hammer matters as much as your day to day luck does with a RNG system in place. Hopefully the awesome new crafting system Kane is working on will make things a bit more predictable.

As Sturger said enhancing changes only dmg type, durability, luck and weight depending on the material used.

Platinum hammers can give you up to 7 properties and the only way to get 2 spells on your weapons is to craft them with one of 4 spells + hit dispel and use invidia powder. With a bit of luck you will get a double spell weapon that way.

I might be wrong but i don't see any point in bs and arms lore, my skills are much lower than yours and i can still make some good weapons.

The advantage of using platinum over toxic hammers is that you can max out stats which can make a difference when you're fighting end game mobs or players. I don't think that they affect which stats roll wile crafting, just the intensity.

That combination is impossible sir. Unless you reroll Hit Dispel with Powder of Invidia, it is impossible to craft a weapon with (2) Hit Lightning, Hit Fireball, Hit Harm, Hit Magic Arrow. A weapon can be crafted with HLA HLD Trip Leech, but always only up to 1 damage hit spell.
