What are some good ways/items to raise mining and lumberjacking to 100+ for the different ores and woods? From what I remember there are no powescrolls. And the only item I can think of off the top of my head is +5 mining gloves. But some ore takes 119 skill.

Also wheres a good spot to farm gargs for knives, picks axes etc.? Just Hyloth?

There is powerscrolls. Unfortunately I cannot answer the rest.

There are power scrolls for crafting. although they only drop from one type of champion spawn so they are more rare.

Gloves of the hard worker are the best gloves for mining. i think they have +10 mining on them and some blacksmithing too. 

i have a pair on my vendor for 999 gold. the vendor is called "your lucky day". its directly SW from Umbra. double plot custom castle with champion skulls stacked in the front yard on the northern perimeter of the desert.

in the palace of poraxymous in trammel there is an abyss champion spawn that has all the gargoyles you need.

Meta you're like a well of knowledge! Which champ gives the tradeskill PS and maybe I'll give it a go if its not to tough.

The champ spawn is called "Master of Crafts". best place to to find one honestly is the triple champ event that dante does. although there is a lot of competition for killing the boss at those. other than that you would have to get lucky and find one at the random champ spawns in T2a. another option is to donate for ED or buy ED in game with gold and buy a 120 powerskull from the ED vendor. sometimes players will sell powerskulls at a discount compared to ED stone.

My house is not right near umbra but if you head SW from umbra you will hit a desert eventually. my house is on the northern edge of the desert .

I dont supposed you know what spawns in the champ do you? So I know what I am looking for.

i think the creatures are called automotons. they look like robots and have a craft associates with them. carpentry automoton, blacksmith automoton, etc. the hardest creature in it is the "Burning one" on the last stage he will poison the shit out of you. with a good cure/ heal hot key you should be fine.

There is also magical clothing that you can get which can raise skills. Also there is a reward of a forget of mining from some BOD that can raise mining skill. There is a pickaxe that gives a mining bonus that is available from a newbie quest. There are lumber jacking augs that can raise your lumber jacking skill.

The mining axe is a quest, yes, its called Jacob's pickaxe, the quest can be taken and done south west of New Haven right by the mountains and gives a +10 bonus but you must take the quest before you reach 50 in mining skill. There is also the archeology shirt that gives a +10 mining bonus, fairly easy to find on vendors. By doing bods you can also get +1, +3 and +5 gloves, sleeves, armor and legging for mining and blacksmithy. Finaly, Ancient Smithy Hammers (ASH) can be obtain from those same bods with a bonus of either +10, +15, +30 and or +50.
One other way is by filling small iron bods to get prospecting tools (up one ore type what you are mining), combined with a garg pickaxe (up one more ore type). The best place to farm garg pickaxes and garg knife is doing the garg champ in Fire (Fel) dongeon.
Just remember, even if you are able to mine plat, you will need the matching blacksmith skill to smelt it.
 
Lumberjacking gear can also be obtained from filling carpentry bods in the form of +1, +3 and +5 bonuses on gloves, sleeves, chest, gorget, cap and leggings. Garg hatchet will also give a bonus but i find that they dont weild higher resources and almost never spawn a elemental.

I was able to get to the champ spawn today to try it out. It was a little slow going as I don't really have any type of AE and I can't chain wither. But I did get 3 pickaxes. Was hoping for a knife.

Thank you for the info Thorgal. I read about that axe but it said it only had 20 swings. I assume I could equip it and just use a different axe.  That would give me 120 mining with the gloves from Meta. So now to find some lumberjacking gear and a garg knife!

Yes you can equip it and use an axe or shovel in your pack. I know there is a quest for a shovel that has 1,000,000 uses, can't remember where it's from though. If you have a toolkit key you can add shovels to it and the toolkit can combine uses, so you can have 1 shovel with a very large amount of uses on it

enchanted shovel quest, 3 parts are required, first one is from a rat man at compassion gat, the other 2 i cant say i remember!
