Topic :   Holy Carp! Storage Keys are Expensive!

So, I came back two weeks ago, and finally got around to the point of getting some storage keys...until I find out their cost!  100 ED?!?!  For keys that previously cost 100k gold?  Or 10k of specific resources!?  Okay, I can swallow the high cost, but for the love of all that is good in Sosaria if they are going to cost that much they should at the least be blessed!

*Kicks ground and grumbles about 1m for a Treasure Hunter Key*
FYI players have always been able to buy keys for 100eds, its now just easy to buy with no gm assistance.  We had them in the begining cheap, to encourage players to stop hoarding:)  Now we offer on mini quests and gathering tasks if you want to work for them, or for ED if you dont want to grind.  The tasks are great for new players:)

I don't know... it sounds like a lot at first but once you actually focus on trying to achieve "I want this key" goal, I think it's a reasonable cost so that you can be able to put all those resources into such a small, all purpose, lightweight and stylish container.

I could go into an old man's ramblings about "Back in my day we used to....." but I won't *grins*.

Used to what Expo?  Use your marked rune books for every specific ore and rune a recall mining script?  Or perhaps have your rails set up to macro the wood collecting into a drop box on your houses doorstep?   ;D   I'm old too  :P

The one that I think really hurts players is the reagent key, as it does not have (that I've found) an alternative method of obtaining.  It's EITHER 1,000,000 gold or 100ED.  I've been playing for two weeks, and still have not amassed 1m on my gold ledger at one time, and I'm a vet, and know how to bring in gold.  I can only imagine how difficult and daunting it would be for a new player.

So far, I've obtained my t-map key (30k by buying out the various fish vendors), BoD book (by buying 50k, by buying iron ingots from guildmates), Ingot Key (Thanks T*E for being vigilant in stocking your ingot vendors, keep up the great work guys!) and a Reagent Key, given to me by a generous guildmate.

What I meant originally was that if I wanted to store my stash of ingots or other resource I'd have to bank it, take up several chests in my home or someone elses. Keys boggle my mind at how awesome they are.

TBH I never used scripts in UO until I played free shards and even then it was only to do the Doom Bone Cutter lol I always enjoyed mining myself.

I agree, keys are great, and incredibly convenient.  I wasn't trying to slight you or anything in my comment, just saying that the innocent good ol' days of UO were not so innocent.  Given the difficulty of gathering specific resources (Valorite ingots, or Ash wood) are more difficult on this server, due to the randomization of the cells.  The keys, special pets (I still want to give one of those new Golems a go!) and specialized items (mining clothing, and other bonus equipment) make up for it.

Master is the only key that is blessed, not counting the monster contract book.

I wonder if FREE would be to high of a price, for this topic?

I'm not posting this to start an argument, or even TROLL. I am merely stating the obvious. These items are useful to all players, new and old. Before the prices changed Dante/Kane had a quest in mind for most, if not all, of these storage keys. This would equal one free set of storage keys for players who spent some time playing the game.

I did this in the beginning, but it led to extreme exploiting and devaluating the items

For those who have the means, or have no patience, the option to buy them though a monetary, or resource gathering, way was implemented, as well. Their idea is one of the best economically sound free shard custom variations I have witnessed in this age of Free-Gaming.

The only real problem here, is lack of patience. Everyone wants things NOW; and I am sorry for stating more of the obvious, but if you did remember the old days Emperor Norton than you would remember how long it took to do everything when this all began.

There are 365 days in the year, plenty of time for players to achieve 1million gold, or any of the other options presented in the storage key scenario. I say, take the time to enjoy the game, and allow the staff to keep up with the most important part of any game; the fun. That fun includes goals and challenges. Not all players are created equally. The same is true about income or time available to play UO. I imagine Dante is running this free shard to allow us the joy of playing UO, instead of getting bored in 3 months, because we have everything, to go fill that void, of fun, somewhere else. No risk no reward, and without challenge can you truly say something was accomplished, besides wasting time?  ???

   New players do not need to have everything in two weeks. They need to be learning the value of things here, how it all works, and find friends who can help them enjoy/play the game, instead of giving them handouts. {just my opinion}

All in all, I'm just grateful that Dante lets me play, that I can still play UO {for free} a game that is 14-15 years old, and that I have learned the value of patience better then most of my peers.

Tyvm for the post:)

P.S. Expo-- can you read me a bed time story? Something about Dragons, and magic swords of slaying-- Please?

I'm not bashing anyone here, in fact, I had initially stated that the high price was tolerable, but suggested they be blessed (key's used to get stolen left and right from unsuspecting folks who didn't know they weren't blessed).  And as for patience, the costs of UO Evolution are mediated by impatient players, it's impatient players that help keep Dante from going broke (these recent upgrades are probably not cheap) by donating to receive instantaneous benefits.  Most items offered on the Donation page are obtainable in game, but how many have actually done the quest for their Vecna?

The keys were 100k when I played previously, they are now 10x (in some cases) more expensive now, while others are significantly cheaper.  Sure I balk at change, especially when that change comes in the form of costing me more time.  Maybe I'm a little impatient, but in some cases, that's welcomed and a virtue.
The purpose of the shard offering overpriced keys is to burn off the excess gold from the rich players and to give the younger players a way to earn the item with busy work to keep them logging in, chopping wood, mining etc and then selling to the rich players.  It's an economy issue not just an arbitrary decision to overcharge:)

I do acknowledge that you have done this all before, and am sorry you where not here when the keys were only 50k. But things have changed and you came back a bit late. The best part of this conversation though, is you prevailed in the end. You have what you want[ most of those keys] and you did it the best way you knew how.   8)

In the end I think that's the whole point; we should all get what we want, the best way we know how: gold, real money, or time well spent... you choose how you play, and Dante/Staff just give us the fun/options.

But, what is the master key? A key to control all the keys.
If yes, I suppose that :
Three were given to the Elves; immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven, to the Gargoyles, great imbuers and craftsmen of the Ter Mur facet. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Human, who above all else desire power.

Sorry, could not resist to this little Lord of the Rings parody.
