1 gold piece?

I have discovered that when selling scrolls, gained fairly from MoB's, that I only receive one gold piece each-- any kind of scroll.

I did enjoy the extra income, though small, from this venture. I am not mad about the change, since I figure Kane has a reason for it. I would like to know more about the change though. The reason why, and if it will be a permanent change.

Any information would be kind; and that being said, I know Kane will get around to filling me in on the change eventually.

P.S. happy tidings to you and your Wife Kane.   :)

In the update thread Zenn and I touch on this change. The response suggests that it will be modified in a future update.

As for the reason, NPCs are a source of unlimited gold and some players make use of this game mechanic.

Tangential thought: notice the word mechanic -- not one of the derogatory terms thrown around describing any and every unintended action on the server. It is a standard game mechanic that had unintended consequences. I am glad to see a change in the code to fit the desired vision for the server. If you are able to do it, players will do it. This is not a problem with the players, this is a discrepancy between the vision for the server and the server code.

So we don't change the 500k gold you can get from a quick Rikktor champ, but we do change how much scrolls sell for?

Both were changed, see the developer logs on the wiki for details

I know champ spawns are on our radar but many other priorities are ahead of that atm.

The amount of things on our list grows on a daily basis. Things we planned on need to be pushed back or moved along quicker. Things we didn't plan on arise, always. Life. Legacy UO issues, RunUO issues, custom script revamps/removal, editing of existing code, new ideas for custom content. Coding, testing, re-testing, QAing, re-re-testing, publish on test server, test again, fix code, test again, fix code, test again, works, put on live server, folks find pros/cons/exploits/loopholes, back to re-code, test, test center, re-code....

I hope you see where I'm going with this. Kane is but one (great) man but he can only do so much. Same with myself and other staff that volunteers their time to make this shard the best around. Shit, I sometimes feel we do better than what OSI/EA/and friends did but we don't have the payroll they had/have. lol I wish. Point being, patience is a virtue, not endorsed by Lord British but should be!

I also understand that you're probably not "knocking" us, but I felt I had to jump in. I've been wanting to do some (more) original ideas but that all got pushed back because of the holidays.

No that wasn't an attack at anyone.  I just feel that with as much gold as is in the economy already it seems crazy to affect this change now.  Scrolls are a pain to gather up in quantities to sell unless you have a scribe tome, however these are items that new players could count on to sell to try and break into the economy somewhat.  Taking this away from them just puts them one step further removed from ever being able to get ahead.  And before someone comes in and says oh look they took away your way to make money.  I haven't sold a scroll of any kind to a vendor in so long I can't even remember the last time.  To me the profit wasn't there to justify my time spent.  I just look at this and see the damage it can and will do to the new players joining the server.  You know the ones that need the easy gold.

Yea, I totally understand. It's kind of like when folks would leave gems on earth eles and I'd make a killing from selling those as a new player. I am aware of the "ultimate goal" with all this but yea, I've always believed champ spawns drop far too much gold, especially since you don't even have to pick it up.

What we need are more gold sinks for vets but that's another thread.

The selling of scrolls could net folks millions, even quicker than champ spawns.  You could macro crafting scrolls and selling them, huge profits.

Quicker than champ spawns, no. Unattended way to make gold at a consistent rate, sure.
