Welcome to UO Evolution!

When you first log on, your going to be a bit lost as to what to do first, that's where this guide will come in.

Chances are, you've run into a member of the NEW Player Guild, if not, find one and have them show you around.  The NEW Player guild is here to help new players acclimate to their new UO home.  NEW guild has a long history as guides for all newcomers.

Once you join the guild, there are a few things to learn to help you quickly gain the ability to play & explore.

1. DO NOT EAT YOUR SKILLBALL! Your skillball should be saved for later.  It is usually used for skills that you can't normally acquire (throwing), crafter skills that are expensive (smith, tink, tailor, inscribe, etc), or for the final 20 points of any skill (100-120).
2. Join NEW!
3. Read  Wiki>rules & Wiki>commands.
4. Goto Moongate>New Player>Training Elemental
    a. Strip down to just a robe & grab weaps off the tables within the room.  These are special weaps/shields for training & basically useless outside of the room.
    b. Macro All skills you can, work Spirit Speak(SS) along with them, because, it can keep you alive while your afk training. Do not macro peacekeeping in or near the room! We use almost ALL skills, Evo is a no-cap server & highly customized, don’t try to “play” until your GMed in almost all skills, or youll become very unhappy quickly.
    c. AFK training is allowed, only things not permitted to afk is anything that can earn you an income, or your weap LEVELS or your pets LEVELS (Not pet's skills tho, there is a difference).  But all of this is covered in wiki>rules
    d. While macroing skill training read the wiki & forums as youve time.

Ok, the basics are out of the way, Ask in [g anything you need to know, if anyone knows, they will share the info.  If no one’s able or not on, ask in [c.  The server is full of very friendly, helpful people, just don’t be rude or demanding, because main reason we are here is to play. But, if all else fails, goto our forums ([pm Dante (the servers owner) with choice Name & password, for access, it’s the only way. & use the search option.  Your other 3 choices are uoguide.com for excellent walk throughs with even some pictorials, uo stratics (they have a massive database, youll have to use google to find things faster) or just plain google things.

Keep your Stuff insured (turn on Auto-Insure on your avatar & keep 60+k Gold in your bank), or youll be very sad in short time.

Use the Moongate system to explore, but I strongly urge you to goto the Moongate>new player>new player dungeon, kill things there to get a feel of your toon, and while your there, kill the green colored mobs & get 8 green gems (use 2 for the weap & shield) and drop the rest on the mailbox at NEW Player Guild House. Then, get some jewelry for 105/105 taming/animal & find someone giving away a Cu sidhe. They aren’t disposable, try to not let it die, itll be good practice for you, so when you realize what pets are really out there, youll not cry when you “F” up, it dies & suffers possible 50% stat loss!

Now, you have a tank that will be your meat shield as you go out to explore & such.  Cu’s are tank pets that heal you & itself (youll still need vet, no skimping). Now you have the perfect Hunting partner for starters.

Now then, where to go from here: Well, I suggest going thru the content as it was published to the original OSI servers: deceit, covetous, wrong, etc, T2A, Malas, Tokuno, Abyss. Make sure you take note of ankh/rez stone locations, would be in your best interest to get UOAM as well.

Loot Bag: Soon

Arties: They drop from all mobs (basically) & are either in the monsters corpse or in your main pack.  Some are “meh” others are amazing.

Luck: Very important! The more luck in your suit, the better the items are that you get to drop from your kills. Max Ive heard a player has is 7k, I play with aprox 3k-5k, depending on which suit/build Im using.

Stats: (See Stat Section Below)You gain 1 per 15-20 mins, on average. Go with 100 across the board, 350 is Hardcap with a max stat scroll. (I speak in str/dex/int) As you grow & decide what you will be, general basic rule: as a caster 100/100/125, as a dexxer:100/125/100. Eventually youll still have something close to 100/125/125.  Now that’s for hardcap, gear can raise it even higher, I know a dexxer wants 165 for maximum b-aid speed, but the rest is a matter of personal choice.

Skills/Skilling: See section below.

Gearing1: Evo has many custom quests, some easy, others insanely hard, a few of them are at NEW GH, upper floor above the runebook library, there is a list of them on the wiki>quests, that’s more extensive, use forums search for guidance.

Gearing 2: 1st job after New Dungeon is “Astro Bone Demon” quest (MG>New Player>Guild>upstairs of runebook library.  You will need a Cu, tracking, reveal spell & patience. This is a challenge but one you will want to complete for your first starting gear set. The rest you will have to comb the forums, study at vets you see at bb, study at vets during triple champs, see what is offered at the monthly auctions or find a mentor. There are way too many variations for anyone to tell you what exactly to get: it’s a matter of personal preference.

Gearing3: Real Mage, Real Dexer, Real Crafter, real anything: UO is a game of longevity, there isn’t a real way to become an UBBER XXX fast.  Donating helps speed up the process, but kinda takes away the exploration/journey factor, your choice.(Adendum:See Gearing Below)

Quests: Many are still here from OSI, but there are many more added because of the customization of the server. Some items are only received from quests or custom mobs. See wiki>quest, Evo’s Forums, uoguide.com or google +stratics

Weapons 1: Another topic of variations & personal choice. Pick up an “ice cross” bow or some low end artie off a vendor, some use the Zelda sword, test, learn & discover.

Weapons 2: Champing: you want a weap that can do the whirlwind maneuver (many use the double axe), you seek what we call triple leech on it for starters. That means mana, stam & life leech, the higher the better but 40+ is base. A newbie version, with only 2 stats, just spend the points to get the leech that’s missing to 40+
2. Self-repair 5
3. Spell channeling
4. Lightning on hit to 40+(first choice), then fireball
5. 100% Cold/poison/energy are preferred (physical can 1 shot yourself with certain high end mobs that have reflect physical, so not a good thing, tho consecrate “can” help)
Warning: enchanting/enhancing(whatever word) can break a weap, do so knowing your weap will most likely be destroyed!
This is a junk weap, do not invest ED items onto it, when you’ve found your real weap, donate this one to NEW via NEWs mailbox

High end weaps:
Tripple leech!(50!)
Hit lower defense(45-50)
Hit lower Attack(45-50)
100% cold/poison/energy/
40+ weapon damage(can go up to 65, but EXTREMELY RARE)

With this weap, you just sold your spouse, children, house, car, & all internal organs for!  You will then want to get EDs (Evo dollors, via buy from a player, or donate yourself to get some) & use it to buy 1 spell channel deed, 1-1 handed deed, & 5-6 self-repair deeds. Then for augments: +40-50 Hit area, (some also put triple slash on instead).

Bows & Throwing: Soon

Weapon Leveling: 1-15 are naturally on a freshly crafted weapon, you will have to get the remaining level deeds from EDs, Vendors, players, SOS, Tmaps, “treasure chests” found in dungeons, from the EC gambling stone near BB. Only player made are levelable.  Arties don’t level, it is a bug concerning the message.

Champing: Soon (tram, events, fel, rules, etc)

Crafters: Soon

PVP/PK: Fel only, non-event times/places. Can happen to anyone, at any time, no crying. EVO is not designed for pvp, in truth, but there are those who still enjoy killing others, but the balance factor can not be met because of the custom content. (See Fel Section in Following Posts)

Evo Coins(EC): You have a disk in your bank, leave it there.  As you are logged in, your character accumulates 1 per hour which is used as a form of currency for various items. There are 3-4 primary uses for them: 1. Use 50 on a silver skull on a Felchamp alter to start a champ. 2. Use the "Slot Machine" right in front of BB(Its a greenish stone, great rewards!). 3. During auction times, there are usually an item or 2 to purchase (look around in the south area in the auction house). 4. Sometimes there are  “Easter eggs” discovered in the world to buy with these.

Evo Dollars(ED): A form of currency received by donators to the shard. You can donate to get them, (see wiki>donations), or purchase them from other players (watch [tr).  Used as a means to buy certain items not available in the game via normal means.

Lost/Stuck: If all else fails, use help menu>stuck.  This will take you to Brit (regaurdless of what town you actually choose), in aproxamately 2 mins.

Rezing: You have a free self-rez every 30 mins from Help>Rez. Just be sure to take note of where Rez ankhs & Rez Stones are when out hunting. Rez stones will “pull” your LAST corpse to you, so you can recover your dropped gear if you ran out of insurance gold.

Oh, lastly, if you are in the Felucca facet, don't announce your location to anyone in public chat [c (guild chat [g is ok & safe), unless you want to be attacked by player killers (pkers)

Don't go into Felucca with anyone unless your willing to die, that's just a plan fact of the game FEL = high chance of death, no crying.  But Fel is also full of many wonderful things that eventually you be willing to risk going there! (the best gear & stuffs there!)

Go Play & Have fun, and try to be nice-ish, or I will have to *swat* you!

Fel Section:

First & Foremost MUST READ!:

UO Evolution » Community » General Discussions » Read the Rules! No Excuses!
http://uoevolution.com/forum/index.php?topic=7792.0

Felucca is the same as Tram in map layout, but the players in Fel can kill you on a whim, so beware.

Basic Rules:

1. Dont goto Fel if you dont want a player to kill you, no one is safe there.
2. Awesome stuff is there, but they are watched by PKs waiting for you.
3. A general rule: Leave others in peace once you discover someone is already in the area/space. Let me interject 1 thing, if there is a champ or mob engaged. leave the area immediately! If you choose to "hang around",  you either know this person as a friend/ally or  asking to get PKed.  Felucians are territorial, & will act accordingly.  You may only see 1, but they are rarely ever truly alone, so beware.
4. Dont "camp" anything, you can be reported for camping & Pked to boot.
5. Insure everything your carrying, or dont carry it.
6. Keep 60k-180k in gold form in bank, just because I told you to...trust me.(see #6)
7. You can be stolen from in a guild (tram or fel) or in fel in general (see # 5 & 6)
8. Manners & your Reputation help make friends, but some wont care. (see #3)
9. Dying:
  a. Make sure you know your escape route BEFORE you need to know.
  b. Know where the rez posts/ankhs are BEFORE you need them. (you do have 1 self rez per 1/2 hour via help menu)
  c. You have a 30 second invulnerability upon rezzing. Dont mess around, run off screen, rez, hide, regear & go back at it or recall out or hide til its safe.
  d. If you picked a fight, be prepared for the consequences. (see #1 & 3)

I dont know where to put this so here: Get up & walk away from your computer for 10-15 mins if your in a sucky situation & want to get out of it, cool heads prevail.

I am always hesitant to comment about Fel, I do live there & I know many wonderful people, but you tend to run into some of the nastiest people in fel, so I try to keep the rose colored glasses off our players base best I can (where Fel is concenred).

I want you Happy & to Have fun, Evo is a wonderful place!

*hugs*

Skills/Skilling Section:

Most everything is pretty simple & fast to level in the training room. Most Skilling tactics are described on uoguide.com, statics(use google). If you havent a clue what This is even referring to, google "Ultima Online+skills" & look for the stratics link/posts & read away!

In some instances, it may be easier or cheaper to level to 100 first, THEN eat a power scroll.

Ill cover "problem" Skills as I come across the need to explain them.

Bushido: "Can't get above 97~"  Dante has 2 Training Elementals set close to each other in the Training room specifically for this. Stand in between them & macro Momentum Strike. (If your not training Bushido, please leave these for others, thank you!).

Provoke: Normally, I would use the 'taming table" for discord, but if your like me & dislike skilling in the wild here's what I did:

I tamed these in advance to have on-hand for when I needed them(You can also buy them from another player):

Provoke Gaining:
-2 Normal fresh tamed horse to anotheruntil 33.?
-2 Normal fresh tamed Polar Bear to another 41.?
-2 Normal fresh tamed
Frost spider to another 52.?
-2 Normal fresh tamedBeatles to another(the solen hive ones) 71.?
-2 Normal fresh tamed Fire Beatle to another 81.0
-2 Normal fresh tamedHiyru to another 96.?
-1 NEVER tamed Hiyru & 1 tamed one 110.0+?(I only went up to 110, but prob would work up to 120)

There are several ways to do this:

1. 3 boats, with 1 of each critter on seperate boats & yourself on a third. Dont release more then your working on atm, because they will decay in aprx 2 hours.
2. 2 boats, & you on land, then same as above, or some combination of the above.
3. Pin  pets seperately, into 1 tile in your house so they are unable to move once released.(I use lockdowns to do this).

Release pets, & set up macros to skill. Kill pets when done, move to next pair after no more gains. Enjoy. (This isnt the only way to do this, I just thought to share how I do this.)

Stealth: Go buy, from an NPC the following items:

1 Leather set: Cap,Gorget, Chest, Legs, Arms, Gloves.
1 Studded Leather Set: Cap,Gorget, Chest, Legs, Arms, Gloves
1 Bone Armor Chest (kill skelletons out near New Haven, or goto Deciet Dungeon & kill them there til you get one)

Now, Strip down (to avoid problems with blocking gains) & put on the full leather suit. Work your stealth afk. It will possibly get stuck at 60s or 80s, when this occures, strip down & put on the full studded leather suit. You can get up to 108. When you get stuck again, just change the chest to the bone one. This usually takes only 6-12 hours, so just do while at work or sleeping.

Skills you cant get except by "PowerSKULL" only: Coming Soon

Skills you cant naturally skill up & will need a "skillBALL" for (or "Scroll of Transcendence": Coming Soon

I used the wiki commands list but I wanted it to be easier to read and organized so you can glance at it or if you want to print it or go to a section via the bookmarks (pdf). Decided to put it here since this is a really good guide for New Players and helped me. I'm really really new and haven't played the game since the 1990's. This basically makes me completely new since I've forgotten everything but what things you can do in the game (such as housing).

Hopefully this helps other new players like me. :)

Stat Section:

General Info & Tips:

When crating a character, stats are gained according to which skills you use there is a table to help a person know which skills wrok which stat, for effiecncy on uoguide.com here:

http://www.uoguide.com/Stats

or you can use stratics table here:

http://uo2.stratics.com/skill-guides/stat-and-skills-general/skill-stat-management/

Using the tables, it will tell you to use say camping for example, if you want to raise Dex primarily & Int occationally.

Stats are gained aprox every 15-20 mins here on EVO doing this.

Now, if you’re a Vet & desire to alter your stats upon reaching your stat cap, you would unlock & up arrow the one stat you desire to increase & down arrow a stat you taking points from.  Take off your gear to prevent from gear even remotely possibly causing a problem & skill the appropriate skill(with that skills arrow turned UP), to encourage the mechanic to work properly.

Now, we are using Camping as the example, so, I obviously desire to gain in Dex (or Int, but I suggest finding a INT primary skill, for the mechanic to work better).  To gain my DEX, I would have to turn down STR, because it isn’t one of Camping’s primary or secondary Stats. Obviously, if I want to get my STR up & use my DEX points for it, I would use: Animal Taming, Bushido, Chivalry, because they are opposite Skills for this purpose.

Only as a last resort, you will have to page a GM to adjust your stats for you, the current price is 100 ED I believe.

Hope this helps, Enjoy!

*Hugs*

Thorgal posted this recently, so I stole it:

New player ''What do i do now'' guide!

Welcome to Evolution!

By now, you have a new character, familiarized yourself with some of the towns and might even have joined the NEW guild. If you havent, i recommand you do.
What's next?
-Start training, visit the training elemental area, create macros and train away,  but before you do so, go to New Haven and buy or train, from all the npc's there. 38 points per skill on average is considerable.
-Everytime a bulk order deed is available to you, take it, even if you are not planing on filling them, other players might pay a great deal for them.
-Gems like diamonds, rubies and sapphires are a gold mine, selling them over a period of time can be very rewarding.
-Take the time to look at vendors, try to figure out what they are missing, see if you as a new player can provide those, you can? Get a vendor set up.
-The skillball in your bag, keep it for a later date, it will become handy.
-While training skills like Lumberjacking and mining, sell the colored ore and lumber but keep the plain one to help you train other skills like tinkering, bowcrafting, carpentry.
-The Umbra undead stadium is the best place to farm reagents.
-Before you decide to level a weapon, ask a vet if its a good choice of weapon.

Take the time to explore low end dongeons, do a few quests, enjoy your time playing and most of all, dont get discouraged if you cant have the same gear, weapons, pets a veteran has, it takes months of labor. Remember this isn't a race, UO as been around for 17 years and Evo as been live for over 4 years now, its not going anywhere, so enjoy the journey.

I will elaborate more about the subject and others at a later time.

Hello. a lot of people ask about crafted weapons and what to look for when crafting or purchasing a weapon. I will try to make this a simple as possible for new players.

I will list the properties for Pvm and PvP weapons and an end game weapon.

Pvm weapons: Triple Leeches ( Mana, Life and Stamina) Hit spells ( Hit Lightning, Fireball, Magic Arrow and Harm) Hit Harm is Useless for a ranged weapon. The more Hit spells on the weapon when crafted the more weapon spending points you can use for other mods.

PvP weapons: Hit lower attack, Hit lower defense and as many hit spells as possible on weapon when crafted.

Leeches do not work against other players.

As a new player you will hear people talking about Champ axes. These are player crafted double axes that have as their secondary ability a whirlwind attack. This attack will hit all mobs that are surrounding you. This ability uses mana. When you have a triple leech champ axe you will  leech mana, life and stamina with each successful hit while using the whirlwind ability.

Champ Axe: triple leeches, and at least one hit spell, preferably 2 hit spells and eventually add some hit area attack points ie; cold, fire, poison and energy.

All weapons and most gear can be socketed and have augments added to them.

I have only listed the basics on weapon mods. You can ask other players to show you their weapons on their paperdoll to get an idea of what you might want on your weapons.

I will give you an example of an end game weapon with maxed mods.

PvM/PVP weapon: Damage increase 50+
                           Hit Fireball 50
                           Hit Harm 50
                           Hit Life Leech 50+
                           Hit Lightning 50
                           Hit Lower attack 50
                           Hit Lower defense 50
                           Hit Magic arrow 50
                           Hit Mana leech 50+
                           Hit Stamina leech 50+

These stats are obtainable, but extremely rare so don't expect to get one.

I hope this helps the new players some. If the vets see this, please feel free to add what i might have missed. This is just a basic as I could get it without listing all the weapons.

Gearing Section:

Quote
Emperor Norton (a very old vet)Shared:End Game Gear is a little difficult to rate, as it really depends on your play style.  Currently there are two "Meta Builds", stacking swordsmanship, or stacking magery.  The reason for these two being the most popular because the majority of high end items will increase one or the other.  Sure, there are other viable options, like stacking archery, or mace fighting, but the MAJORITY of the pieces out there will be set to either swords or magery.

Budget options for a Swords kit would be along the lines of:

Kas Gloves
Kas Chest
Kas Arms
Captain Johns Hat
Kas Robe
Cursed Pirate Pants
Swamp Boots

Example of a Budget Mage Kit would be something like:

Chest of the Magi
Arms of the Magi
Skull of Vecna
Antiquity Gloves
Magi Robe
Magi Cloak
(Not really any budget legs for this set, but Magi Legs, Cursed Pirate Pants, or even Astro Deamon Legs work well)

You get the idea.

Weapon selection also depends widely on game style.  If you are going mage, you are going to be hindered by the minimum of -20 Mage Weapon on any GM crafted item, and a maximum of -29 Mage Weapon for anything you add a deed to or have staff augment.  While if you go swords, the options are a little broader with Use Best Weapon Skill weapons.  Keep in mind, when utilizing a Mage Weapon, you will be loosing the amount indicated after the negative, so if I have natural 120 Magery, and I use a Mage Weapon that gives -20, my "combat" skill with that weapon will drop to only 100.

For blocking, you really have two options.  Bushido (requires a two handed weapon with no shield to make the best use of it) and parry (requires a one handed weapon and a shield), of course you can use a one-hand deed on any two handed weapon and also utilize a shield, but there are penalties involved.  You will never block as efficiently with a bow as you would with a sword.  Unfortunately there is (to my knowledge) no hard math on parry/dodge chance with Bushido here, as it's use is shrouded in mystery, but it is my preferred method of defense in both PvP and PvM, but I've fought with changing to parry for quite some time.
