UO Evolution Shard Rules

In general, I would like to impose as few rules as possible and let the shard balance itself out. That being said:

It is YOUR responsibility to know the rules of this shard and abide by them. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse. There are also many warnings and information on the wiki that explains many details of the shard you should be aware of before playing.

Always remember this is just a game and it was meant to be fun and entertaining to all. If someone is not having fun or getting angry, think about your actions and remind yourself why we are all playing Ultima...

Rules May Change

Rules will change as we continue to develop this shard. On occasion, expect us to remove items from the game, adjust stats, add new items etc. This shard is a dynamic environment and will keep evolving as we add/remove new scripts. Please read the rules carefully and check here for updates. Not knowing the rules will not be an acceptable excuse. Major updates and/or rule changes will typically be announced on the forums as well.

Donations

Our dedicated staff, scriptors and decorators have all volunteered their time and resources to make UO Evolution a wonderful source of entertainment, free for everyone. We all do this work for the love of the game and as our hobby. We just ask that anyone who benefits from this project, please donate what you feel this experience is worth to you. Any amount you can afford helps with the costs and is truly appreciated.

Violations

Read ALL the rules and the entire WIKI. Not knowing the rules of this shard will not be a defense

Punishment
The Shard Administrator and GMs enforce the Rules. The staff has anything from a warning, harsh fine, deletion of items/characters/skill gains, temporary jailing, indefinite jailing, to permanent banning are at their disposal.

Jail System
Besides the regular jail cells, we have developed a unique jail system that will require you to mine jail rock. You will have to mine a set amount of jail rock in order to be released. The amount of rock depends on your infraction.

Judgement will be fair, but playing on this shard is a privilege. Please do not abuse it, the rules, or the players.

Respect and Maturity

We all have a sense of right and wrong. Exercise it. We want you to have as much fun as you can without trampling on the fun of others. Do not cheat or exploit the rules simply because you can. Play fair even when no one is watching. Treat each other with decency at all times. Above all, show respect to the people who voluntarily staff this shard.

Language

This shard is primarily English speaking, please no foreign languages in public chat. If you want to speak another language, please use the [pm private message system or party chat

Keep chat clean - no cussing, arguing, harassing, griefing...

Roleplay language is encouraged. Instead of cursing, try "Sir, you have offended my honor, prepare to defend yourself" or "Your mother is a troll"

Try to keep public chat friendly and on the game. Please try not to be negative, speak about personal problems, complain etc. Anything not game related should be taken private.

No racial/religious/national/political/ethnic slurs are tolerated.

We do not allow promotion of drug abuse/talk

Guild chat and private messages are not actively monitored - rules there are not being enforced on a regular basis - however, statements can be taken as harassment and reported to staff.

You can set some Profanity Filters, follow the instructions to block a specific player or curse words

The staff reserves the right to deny use of any name in the game. If a player refuses to have their name changed, we will pick a random one. Should you have a complaint about another player's name, contact the staff.

Feedback

Players are welcome to provide feedback to the owner and Admins to discuss pretty much anything on their mind so long as it remains constructive. We do read everything so keep it short and to the point. The best way to communicate your thoughts is to send a general page through the <help> menu. Also, you may post on this community Forum which is read daily. Please DO NOT attempt to correspond with Admins or Owner via any private messaging [pm or instant messaging as the volume of messages gets unmanageable.

Please do not ask to be a staff member. We select staff by their in-game conduct and the helpfulness of vet players to new players. You must have experience with scripting and an extensive knowledge of the game systems, not just player experience.

We do allow players to run events and submit custom scripts for us to add to the shard, so we do encourage player development and participation in the community.

Contacting the Owner:

Please always follow these steps before sending a page or contacting Dante:

1. Try to find info by exploring, testing and general common sense
2. Explore the moongates, its set to take you to all the main spots, quests, vendors, cities dungeons etc
3. Read the website and all the Rules
4. Read the Forum, the FAQ, Q&A, and shard info
5. Google it
6. Use the internet resources, I like Stratics and UO Guide for general game info and the quest walk thrus
7. Use the chat [c system to ask players
8. Ask a junior staff member if you see them/ask a guild/ask a nearby player
9. Send a general help page, using the <help> button at the top of your screen
10. Page a specific staff member [pm name
11. Ask in Discord channels
12. Page Dante

Reporting bugs and exploits

If you discover an exploit or bug, please report it to the staff immediately. Do NOT intentionally use exploits. DO NOT post the exploit on the forums, please private message the staff

Do not communicate any exploit to any other player. If you are seen explaining how to exploit to another player you will be punished.

Do not talk about any exploit in public chat or discord

If you are causing the shard to crash, you will be banned

Cheating

UO Evolution has a zero tolerance for cheating. We have custom code in place to detect cheating and auto-alerts the staff if rules are broken.

DO NOT use hack or cheat software on this shard, it will be detected and you will be banned! It is not worth it, so please don't even try

You must use our custom patch/client. If you are trying to use another client, it may be considered a hack

You ARE allowed to use UO Razor or UO Steam to connect to this shard. DO NOT use any other software or clients to connect to this shard for any reason

One Account, Five Characters

Each player is allowed one account and five characters only. You can obtain a second account by donation. An Admin must create the second account. ALL ACCOUNTS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE ADMINISTRATOR. Players are not permitted to share accounts or give access of their account to any other player. You are to represent your characters at all times. You may delete your current characters and start another one at any time so long as you only occupy five character slots at a time. Characters under one hour old may not be deleted.

Accounts are the property of the shard. Player's accounts may be suspended, banned or deleted for violation of the rules. Players may not buy or sell their accounts.

Macroing

Yes, macroing is allowed. Please see the Razor & Macros page for detailed information. Please no unattended crafting, fishing, panning, resource gathering or killing mobs afk for ANY reason

If you are caught afk macroing resources, you will lose all gains and gear, zero tolerance policy

Client Modifications

UO Evolution uses a custom patch 7.0.14.3 with modified artwork/graphics. You must be on our patch to see the game world correctly. Use an unmodified version of UO Steam or UO Razor to connect to our shard

Allowed client modifications are limited to art changes only. Your client and assistant program should otherwise remain unmodified.

Authorized third party software includes:

• UO Steam
• UO Razor
• UOCartographer
• UOWedding
• UO Automap
• UOBod
• EasyUO may be used, but only for actions possible and allowed in Razor/UOSteam

Do not use Sallos, UO Stealth, Orion, or Enhanced Razor. We have code in place to detect. If you are caught using any speed hack, or unauthorized client, you may be banned with no warning

You can use the new ClassicUO Client BUT, it is in development. It has many known issues and was not created for custom shards so you may not see our shard/monsters/content correctly. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

We do not support the 3D Enhanced Client

Advertising

Advertising anything other than the UO Evolution project in game, on our forums, or in our voice servers is expressly prohibited without prior consent from the Administrator. Doing so risks banning of your account and IP address.

Please do not spam public chat for any reason. We do not allow macros or automated messages of any kind.

No afk spam messages at Britain bank

No selling items or pets at Britain bank. Do not park your pets "for sale" in public areas

If you are selling items, you may use the trade channel [tr to send one message per half hour. Make sure the message is unique and typed, not an automated macro

Please use the proper forum board to list your items for sale or make a vendor

Do not advertise a business or try and sell items for real money

Never talk about or advertise other shards on UO Evolution, you will be banned

Reds/Murderers

Preface by saying that though a Murderer may be played, consistently thoughtless griefing will not be tolerated. Roleplaying type of conflict and competition are encouraged by UOE. Hence Red characters are a welcome element. It is a very grey, subjective area, however, between what is griefing and what is not. Murderers beware. Do not "rez kill". After a player has been defeated/killed, you must let them fully recover before engaging them again.

Player vs Player

This shard encourages dueling and guild rivalries. The human element mixed with dynamic combat is one of the features of Ultima that makes this game so exciting.

UO Evolution allows PVP combat but requires "Player Killers"(PK)to allow defeated players to fully recover before attacking them again. This shard does not allow "Rez Killing" or "griefing" other players. We allow for good vs evil roleplaying and want the shard to be fun for all.

Player Killing or Player Looting at staff run events is NEVER allowed, no matter what facet

Do not camp out at spawns, moongates or player's homes

Cutting off heads is allowed after a kill, but do not do this during events or other type of gathering where this behavior would be considered unwelcome by the staff

Always try to be fair and consider how you would feel if the situation was reversed. If someone complains or is not having fun, then the rule of thumb is you were probably violating a rule

Do not target young, new or inexperienced players. Lessons can be learned without ruining a player's experience on this shard. Please use some common sense and common courtesy.

Never bully a player or intentionally try to run off a player either by actions or words. If there is a legitimate problem with a player, please notify a GM and let us take care of the situation.

Stealing, Thieving, Deception, Lost Items

These skills are not allowed in Trammel and the other safe facets. Gamemasters will punish players who prey on new players in this manner. Please do not scam players out of items or trick them with lies. That being said, experienced players should know better and be on guard at all times.

Do not lure unsuspecting players from Trammel to Felucca with the promise of gifts or help, and then kill or ambush them. If players want to be in Felucca they will travel there without deception.

We do allow players to use these tactics in Felucca, so players beware! If you get scammed, lied to or ripped off, the gamemasters will not replace anything or get involved in this situation. No crying!

You are NEVER allowed to steal or loot another player at events!

Champion Spawns

Please use common courtesy when you are at group events or champion spawns.

Champ Spawns are considered a group activity and anyone is allowed to join in before the spawn is at 8 candles. After the spawn has progressed past 8 candles, you need to ask permission to join in from the person that was at the spawn first.

Do Not camp out in the champion spawn areas. Do not use a "ghost" or alt character to camp/watch a champion timer

You are NEVER allowed to steal a champ on any facet, except Felucca

DO NOT grief or interfere with another group doing a champ spawn in a safe facet

BEWARE: Please read the rules related to player killing and the Felucca facet. Player killing and champion spawn stealing is a common occurrence in these areas of Felucca. New players should stay clear of these areas until you feel confident in your ability to PvP

Monster Stealing

There are many Monsters and Bosses that require keys/special items to summon. You are never allowed to engage that monster unless you actually used the key on the safe facets (You may monster steal in Felucca)

Do not jump in and steal monsters from other players. If the monster is already engaged with a player you need to ask permission unless you are in Felucca

Please be respectful and do not camp the special item spawns. If other players are trying to get the same items, try and rotate to make it fair for all.

Do Not camp out in the rare spawn areas. Do not use a "ghost" or alt character to camp/watch a monster/event timer.

Loss of your Account

It is the player's responsibility to log in often, to keep their account active.

Accounts are the property of the shard. Player's accounts may be suspended, banned or deleted for violation of the rules.

Accounts and player's housing may be wiped if there is no activity or log in for over 6 months
